Aerial Tree Inspection

MKA Ecology has a team of qualified surveyors in Tree Climbing and Aerial Rescue. By climbing and inspecting trees at height we undertake more detailed assessments of potential roost presence which may not be possible from the ground.
Aerial tree inspections involve a qualified tree climber ascending a tree to inspect the potential roost feature using ropes and an endoscope. This is to establish if bats are present, likely to be absent, or to determine the status of the roost if present. This information is essential in establishing the impacts that a planned development, tree pruning, or tree felling would have on bats and is usually required to support a European Protected Species Licence application to enable the works to go ahead lawfully.
Trees can be climbed throughout the year which may negate the need for a time-consuming dusk/dawn emergence survey which is often restricted to the active bat season (April-October). An aerial survey can therefore help reduce potential, costly time delays to a project.
When surveys show that the impacts on bats and their roosts are unavoidable our ecologists are best placed to provide advice on how to mitigate the impacts of the project.
