Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG)
Our BNG specialists have extensive knowledge and expertise in identifying great opportunities to improve and enhance biodiversity during all stages of a development project.
BNG is a mandatory approach to development, and/or land management that aims to leave the natural environment in a measurably better state than it was beforehand. One of the provisions of the Environment Act, introduced in November 2021, is the requirement for new development to provide a 10% biodiversity net gain for at least 30 years.
At MKA Ecology we can help identify project viability right from the outset by inspecting the land for biodiversity net gain potential and offer both onsite and offsite biodiversity enhancement advice. We undertake a thorough current site habitat condition assessment and compare it against the proposed site habitat condition to calculate potential biodiversity net gain. Our ecologists are then able to offer advice on the scope and type of habitats required to be created, enhanced or restored to help provide the net gain required. Our experience in liaising with local authorities and other relevant third parties for delivery of BNG is an essential factor in the smooth running of the project.
