The MKA Ecology team is keen to support biodiversity and conservation in the local and global community.
For the MKA team, ecology is more than just the day job – it’s a passion. Since it was founded in 1998 MKA Ecology has been involved in many local and global projects.
Nest box schemes: we have funded, supplied, installed and monitored nest boxes and feeder stations in the villages surrounding our base in Shepreth, with particular emphasis on supporting house and tree sparrows.
Local schools: we have been delighted to be involved with primary schools in wildlife pond building, information sessions on bats, moth trapping and identification, birdwatching walks and setting up bird feeding stations and reptile over-wintering habitats. We also enjoy running work experience placements for interested year 10 students from our local Village Colleges.
Supporting local groups: MKA team members support local groups by active participation in events and committees, in particular the Cambridgeshire Bat Group and Fowlmere Bullfinches Wildlife Explorers. We have undertaken botanical monitoring for BSBI in local “patches”.
International Conservation: MKA team members have been seconded to volunteer for projects as diverse as the Spoon-billed Sandpiper task force and for Birdlife International’s Malta project.
Biodiversity enhancement initiatives: we have helped with building and installation of bat roosting boxes in our local country park and with biodiversity enhancement measures at the David Attenborough building in Cambridge. We are proud designers and installers of our own green roof at our office in Shepreth.
Finally – it’s not all about ecology – MKA Ecology are also proud kit sponsors of Dynamo Foxton Football team kits from under 8s to under 16s.
